Assignment: Choose one book from the list and read. Create a tri-fold brochure on one, white sheet of computer paper. Components of the brochure: •· Front left panel: Label it SUMMARY and write a 20 word summary of book. •· Front center panel: Label it MY OPINION and write a 5-sentence opinion that starts with the words "I know the feeling . . ." After writing your opinion, write your NAME (first and last). •· Front right panel: Write the title and author of book. Decorate this panel as if you were the illustrator designing the cover for the book. •· Back left panel: Label it SETTING and write the setting of the book, then draw an illustration to match. •· Back center panel: Label the top half CONFLICT and write the conflict of the book beginning with the words "The problem the main character faces is . . . " Label the bottom half RESOLUTION and write the solution to the problem beginning with the words "The problem was solved when . . . " •· Back right panel: Label it CHARACTERS, then list and describe the major characters. (Include a physical description as well as the role each plays in the book). •· Due the first week of school. Assignment: Choose one of the books from the list and read to create a "Book in a Bag." Each student has a brown paper bag. The Title of the book, author's name and the five literary elements from the story, (plot, setting, theme, characters, and conflict) will be listed on the outside of the bag. Each literary element will be illustrated and explained by drawings or objects in the bag. The student will provide an explanation of the objects in a presentation during the first week of school. Due the first week of school Definitions of Literary Elements: Plot: The sequence of events in the story. Setting: The time, place, physical details, and circumstances in which the story takes place. Theme: The main idea or underlying meaning of the story. Conflict: The struggle found in fiction. Character: Person who is responsible for the thoughts and actions within a story.
