Bullying Protocol

 

Bullying Defined:

            A student is being bullied or victimized when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over

time, to negative actions on the part of one or more other students (Olweus 1986 and

1991). It is a negative action when someone intentionally inflicts, or attempts to inflict, injury or

discomfort upon another.

 

Procedures for Reporting Bullying:

Incidents MUST be reported to the Teacher, Counselor, Assistant Principal, or Principal

 

Suggested Teacher Interventions:

Stop the behavior

Debrief the rules

Conference with the student

Initiate a counselor referral

Initiate an administrative referral

 

Disciplinary Options for Bullying:

·         Counseling

·         Parent Contact

·         In-School Suspension

·         Out of School Suspension

·         Referral to Law Enforcement

 

Proactive Measures to Prevent Bullying

·         Clear definition of bullying

·         Open conversations about bullying

·         Classroom guidance by school counselors

·         Commitment to administrative visibility and availability

 

Depending upon the severity of the Bullying Incident, administration reserves the right to utilize ANY step deemed necessary.
